This is your Practice, This is your Life

ree

Stop waiting for the perfect plan.

Start with the right check in.

Sometimes I obsess over what our flow should look like this week. I scroll and see perfect practices and beautifully creative transitions, and that old imposter feeling taps my shoulder. Their routine looks shiny and certain. Mine feels like I am finding it as I go. Then I remember their body is not mine, and neither is their practice or their class. I come back to moving from care instead of performance. Simple and honest. No grandiosity. Just vulnerability.

Start with the right check in

Sometimes not knowing what to do turns into doing nothing at all. We chase the plan that promises everything and end up frozen.

Your body is not asking for perfect. It is asking to be met.

When you begin with a check in, consistency stops being a battle of willpower and becomes a relationship with what is true today.

This is the heart of self study, the yogic practice of svadhyaya paired with the kindness of ahimsa. Choosing what serves rather than what impresses lets your nervous system unclench. A relaxed system will show up again tomorrow because it trusts you.

Permission first

You are allowed to choose what serves you today. Not what looks impressive. Not what an old version of you did. Not what the internet says is optimal. Not what you see someone else doing or what your friend swears by.

Ownership creates steadiness because it returns you to your real life. When you choose from care instead of proving, your nervous system relaxes. You do not have to earn your next step. You get to meet it.

The Check-In

Before you pick a practice, pause for a minute and ask yourself a few questions:

What kind of energy am I carrying right now?

Do I need stillness or movement?

Do I need strength or softness?

Am I caring for myself or proving something?

There is no right answer. There is only honest information.

That honesty is the bridge between intention and action.

A Simple practice menu:

Use your answers to choose the smallest honest step that fits your day.

If your body asks for quiet, try five minutes of easy breathing.

Sit tall, rest one hand on your belly, and lengthen your exhale. Longer exhales nudge your body toward calm and help your mind settle.

If you need gentle circulation, try ten minutes of slow flow.

Think cat and cow, a few lunges, a twist, and a long forward fold. Move with your breath and keep it kind.

If you want to feel your strength, try twenty minutes focused on heat. Hold chair for a few rounds of breath, add a steady plank, step into warrior, and finish with a slow bridge. Strength work builds confidence by giving your body clear feedback that you can meet challenge.

How this builds Self-Trust

Every time you check in and choose accordingly, you send your brain a consistent message.

“I ask. I listen. I follow through.”

That sequence strengthens the circuits that link your intention to action.

Your stress response lowers because your body learns that it will not be pushed beyond capacity.

Your motivation rises because the reward is immediate.

You feel congruent.

Over time, comparison fades because you are not chasing someone else’s plan.

You are practicing your life.

One next step

Take two minutes right now to check in.

Choose the smallest step that fits your energy and your day.

If community would help, choose a class at Empower Yoga Hartwell that matches your check in and reserve your spot.

Reflection Prompt:

What does my body need today, and what is the smallest honest way to give it that?

Sit with your answer.

Let it be simple.

Then follow it, gently.
